No, before you put the Table together you have to shorten the legs by 4 inch.
I did mine all in one with the mitersaw.

They don't take away any of the height. i just measured the height of the table and from floor to tabletop is 39 inches. My chairs have a seat height of 28 inches and they look fine, so another inch higher should be fine as well. I posted a picture of the table with my 28 inch high chairs on to my review if you would like to take a look. Hope it helps.

This table is pretty tall but I have 29" bar stools & there's not much space for your legs under the table so I got 24" chairs. I would recommend like 26" chairs I'd you can find them.
With a 29" chair, there's 5 1/4" clearance up to the stabilizing slats of the table. There's still only an 8" clearance without the slats. But sitting in a 29" chair at this table is not comfortable. You would be hunching/bending over the while time. And not just a little. My 24" chairs work ok with the table but I may cut a couple inches off the legs of the table since it's so tall & it would make it more comfortable.

WE use 30in bar stools and they work great.

How many inches do the stabilizing slats take away from the height of this table? I have 29" bar stools, will this table work with them?

The table has a cherry-ish tint to the color, but it is darker. Personally, based on my own cherry dining table and chairs, I think the two shades compliment nicely.

very sturdy table

This was a great purchase.  The table makes an excellent office work space.  It is the perfect size and height.  I just love it.  It was very easy to put together.  It is very sturdy.  I couldn't believe that a wooden table for this size was not very expensive.  I'm so loving my new office work space.
